Week 23 Pregnancy Update

How far along?
24 weeks today.

Total weight gain?
13lbs, almost at the 1 stone mark… argh!

Maternity clothes?
Nothing new yet, but pay day is tomorrow and I’m hoping to get one or two bits to see me through to the end of my pregnancy. I did a blog post on pregnancy style inspiration; take a look if you want some ideas! I might do a little haul of what I buy... If that’s something you would like to see, let me know!

Stretch marks?
Still none.

Sleep?
I’ve been waking up a lot more recently, just because I’m finding it difficult to get comfy.

Best moment this week?
Planning our babymoon! It’s Tom’s birthday in a couple of weeks, so we are going to Manchester for the weekend and are making that our little babymoon before Baby J arrives.

Worst moment this week?
Again, I’ve not had any bad moments this week! I’ve had a few twinges, but I think that’s because my bump has grown quite a bit recently. It’s also given me a sore back.

Miss anything?
Again, missing wine quite a bit! Gosh, I must sound like such an alcoholic! I got some great advice in the comments of my week 22 update, where someone knew a girl who ordered one glass of wine when she was out, but made it the most expensive glass she could just as a treat! I think I will be doing that when we are away in a couple of weeks :)

Movement?
Baby J has been very active this week! It seems to be mostly around meal times – it’s almost like its a little kick to say ‘thanks for feeding me mummy!’ Haha. Either that, or ‘you’ve eaten too much now I’m all squished!’ … probably the latter :)

Food cravings?
I’ve just been craving anything that’s not good for me! Chocolate, biscuits, pizza… and I’ve felt really guilty for it! So Tom and I have made a promise that we are going on a health kick and eat plenty of fruit and veg from now on (check back next week to see if we stuck with it!)

To help with the health kick, I’ve re-ordered my Graze boxes, which I’m super excited about! For those of you who don’t know what Graze is, you can take a look here.

As a current member, I’ve got a code that can get you your 1st, 5th and 10th box free! If you’re interested in this, let me know and I will pass on the code to you.

Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
Nothing new, still the smell of soup!

Gender?
Don't know!

Symptoms?
As I mentioned before, I’ve had a few twinges this week as well as back pain, but I think this is my bump growing and because Baby J is a lot more active recently.

Belly button in or out?
In.

Happy or moody?
I’ve had another really good week with moods, so definitely happy!

Looking forward to?
Going on our babymoon and celebrating Tom’s birthday!

And here is the bump for 23 weeks!

If you want to see my bump shots from previous weeks (I've been taking pics since I found out I was pregnant) let me know and I will do a separate post!

Pregnancy Style Inspiration

Since becoming pregnant, I have on the hunt for some new clothes as my current wardrobe doesn’t have room for my gorgeous growing bump!

There are so many different maternity styles available, that it is sometimes a little difficult to choose items that you will get plenty of wear out of, while still sticking to your style …and budget! For me, I like to be in quite floaty clothes (nothing that hugs around my bum too much) that are smart, but casual.

I thought it would be fun to share with you some photo’s that have given me some shopping inspiration for when pay day arrives!

First up, it would be wrong not to mention the lovely Kate Middleton! Her maternity style was just perfect; as is everything else she wears. Most of the dresses she wore can actually be bought on the high street! I found a couple of Séraphine. While they are a little out of my budget, I might have to treat myself to something from here for a wedding I have coming up in May.

I loved Jessica Alba and Hilary Duff’s styles during pregnancy. Their style is very similar to mine, in that they like to wear a lot of basics and add accessories such as scarves and bags to add a bit extra to them. I think this look is so achievable, and can be put together with a lot of non-maternity items so you will get a lot more wear from them.

I also really liked Rochelle Humes from The Saturdays maternity clothing. The dresses she wore could be both dressed up and dressed down, which I love.

Finally, I have to mention the unbelievably inspirational Katie Piper. I am a huge fan of hers, and have always loved her style. She is absolutely glowing! Again, a lot of her clothes are available on the high street too.

Since pay day is around the corner, I will be looking for some more items that will get me through to the end of my pregnancy, *hopefully* without spending a fortune! If you would like to see a haul of what I buy, let me know in the comments!

Hope you are all having a lovely week.

‘Fun Friday’ Post: Pregnancy Dreams!

When I found out I was pregnant, I was told to be prepared for some strange pregnancy dreams – and man have I been experiencing them a lot recently!

I’ve been having a few nightmares recently where I am being attacked, or I am being threatened by someone/something. I looked it up, and it is meant to represent feeling anxious and vulnerable, which I guess is a pretty normal feeling in pregnancy!

I also have been having really vivid dreams about having a baby boy! We didn’t find out what we are having, but these dreams have convinced me that it is a boy. However, there’s an old wives tale that says dreaming about one sex actually means you are having the opposite! I know this is just a tale, and it really is 50/50, but for some reason I really do think it’s a boy.

Other dreams I’ve had are about teeth. Anyone that knows me can tell you how much bad teeth really freak me out, so I’ve not enjoyed these dreams at all! *touch wood* I’ve never had anything done to my teeth other than a scale and polish, but I’m now paranoid that my teeth are going to fall out or crumble into dust! I couldn’t find any pregnancy related dream-meanings, but this is also meant to represent anxiety, or starting a new chapter in your life. Again, all normal feelings in pregnancy!

Has anyone else experienced really odd dreams while pregnant? I’d love to hear about them, and what you think they mean! Also for you mummies out there, did you dream about the sex of your baby and was it right?! Leave me a comment and let me know J

Week 22 Pregnancy Update

How far along?
23 weeks today.

Total weight gain?
12lbs… eek!!

Maternity clothes?
Nothing new since my little shop last week. Although I am looking to get a new coat, just something lightweight that will be nice for summer and will work as non-maternity, but I’m struggling to find anything I like! If you have any suggestions for where I can look, please let me know.

Stretch marks?
Still nothing. I’m still using my Sanctuary Mum to Be Body Butter, so hopefully that is keeping them at bay.

Sleep?
Has been a lot better the last couple of weeks. My By Carla Mum & Baby Support Pillow is great, and I use that every night. I’ve also got into the habit of having a little mug of warm milk on a night – even my hubby, Tom has started to do the same!

Best moment this week?
Sorting my maternity leave! Feels like I really am on countdown now. I finish the middle of May, which is the weekend of our first wedding anniversary, so will have lots to celebrate then.

Worst moment this week?
No bad moments this week really. I did have a really bad nosebleed the other night when I was trying to have a nice relaxing bath (that lasted all of 5 min) so I guess that was my worst moment. But I can’t complain with that really!

Miss anything?
I’m still missing wine, as bad as that sounds! I’ve not had any, and I know it is OK to have the occasional glass, but I am very stubborn so I’m refusing to even do that!

Movement?
Baby J’s movements have changed a lot this week. The little flutters have gone, and have turned into full on kicks and jabs. This little one is going to be a dancer or footballer, I can tell!

Food cravings?
I did have a real thing for salt and vinegar this week, but after having a packet of Discos that soon changed! Man, those things give you cheekbones! Hehe.

Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
Still can’t stand the smell of soup.

Gender?
Don't know!

Symptoms?
I’ve had a lot of back ache this week, but my By Carla Mum & Baby Support Pillow has been really helping with that.

Belly button in or out?
In.

Happy or moody?
This week has been really good emotionally. I’ve had the odd stress moment, but now I know to take a step back and manage things one at a time. Wish I had thought that logically a couple of weeks ago when I had my little meltdown!

Looking forward to?
Tom and I have been looking at nursery ideas (see last blog post for some pics!) so we are really looking to getting started on that.

And here is the bump for 22 weeks!

Nursery Ideas

It's still a bit early for us to be decorating the nursery, but I'm having tons of fun looking at ideas!

Thankfully, Tom and I have the same sort of ideas for what we would like baby J's room to be like, and I thought it would be fun to share with you a few pictures I have found that have given us a bit of inspiration.

The ceiling lights are so cute! I also really like the tiered shelves.

I love the added bits of colour here.

As you can see we are going for neutrals and cosy lighting, which we can add bits of colour to when we find out if baby J is a he or a she! We also want a room that is lovely and warm, and feels very cosy and relaxing to be in.

We have pretty much decided on furniture too - having looked in what felt like every shop possible, we fell in love with Mamas and Papas Chamberlain range. It's a bit pricier than what we were hoping, but having seen it in store the quality is great and really sturdy. The cot bed can obviously be used for a few years, and the wardrobe and chest of drawers will be great for when he/she is older too as they have plenty of storage.

Let me know what ideas you have thought of for your nurseries/what you already have (I love a good nosey!) and if there are any places you recommend for bedding, as we are still looking at that... There's so much to chose from!

Week 21 Pregnancy Update

How far along?
22 weeks today.

Total weight gain?
10lbs, same as last week

Maternity clothes?
I bought a couple of new things last week, but nothing maternity. Just a couple of basic tops from H&M in a larger size (they are actually cheaper than the maternity basics) and a nice waterfall cardigan from New Look, which I’ve been living in since I got it.

Stretch marks?
Still nothing, but I’m sure they are on their way! I’ve had a really itchy belly this week so I’ve lathered myself every day in hope that I can keep them to a minimum.

Sleep?
My By Carla Mum and Baby Support Pillow arrived this week, and has been a life saver. Sleeping on a night is a lot easier, and it’s great for snuggling on the couch with. I’ve found myself not as tired this week, which is a nice change from going to bed at 9:00 every night.

Best moment this week?
Just generally feeling better about everything has been a real highlight. Thankfully it was just a little funk, and talking it out with my family and midwife made me feel a lot more like myself, and made me realise this is a totally normal feeling in pregnancy.

Ooh, we also purchased the pram this week! We decided on the Silver Cross 3D, and I can’t wait to have Baby J here to put in it! I’ve heard loads of great things about this pram; my cousin had it for her two boys and loved it. There is also a great offer at Mothercare on the pram, car seat and changing bag at the moment, so definitely worth a look.

Worst moment this week?
I’ve not actually had a bad moment this week, which is great!

Miss anything?
I’ve actually been missing wine this week! We were out for lunch with some family at the weekend and as much as I was enjoying raspberry and elderflower water, I was pretty gagging for a nice glass of cold rosé!

Movement?
Baby J is still wriggling away like mad. It’s lovely when I’m just sitting at my desk and he/she just gives me a little nudge. We had a funny moment the other night when Tom started talking to the bump, and all of a sudden baby J was kicking loads! which was lovely for daddy J

Food cravings?
This week has been all about chocolate! Doesn’t matter what kind, whether it’s a chocolate bar, hot chocolate or cake, it’s all I’m wanting. I’ve tried fruit dipped in melted chocolate, just so I don’t feel as guilty J and I have to say it’s lovely.

Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
The smell of soup is still making me feel a bit queasy, so I’m steering well clear of it.
Gender?
Don't know!

Symptoms?
I’ve had quite an itchy belling this week as I mentioned earlier, but other than that I’ve been feeling pretty good.

Belly button in or out?
In.

Happy or moody?
A lot happier this week! Taking some time out for myself really made a difference, and I feel a lot less stressed/anxious.

Looking forward to?
Arranging my maternity leave, and sorting out the nursery! Hopefully we will be doing this in the next month or so.

I’m also looking forward to our first Valentine’s Day as husband and wife J even though we aren’t doing much, I am just looking forward spending some time together before baby J gets here.

And here is the bump for 21 weeks!

My Pregnancy Must-Haves

There are so many wonderful products around for us preggo ladies, it's almost impossible not to pamper ourselves day and night! (Rightly so, we bloody deserve it :)) so I thought I would share with you all some products I have been loving through my pregnancy so far...

Sanctuary Spa Mum-to-Be Collagen Boosting Body Butter

Where do I begin?! I received a sample of this in the Mum-to-Be Pure Pamper Bag, which a work colleague got me as a very thoughtful Secret Santa gift. This also included the Tummy Soothing Bath Soak and 2 in 1 Moisturising Shower Cream, which I love, but I instantly fell in love with the body butter, and have used it every day since.

I use this twice daily and apply all over my tummy, hips, thighs, bum and boobs (TMI??) and so far have been very lucky not to have any stretch marks *fingers crossed* this continues!

It's approx. £10 for 300ml, but in my opinion worth every penny! I will definitely continue to use this after my pregnancy :)

Bio-Oil

This to me should be a staple in everyone's skin care routine! I have been using Bio-Oil for years, but fell in love with it all over again after becoming pregnant.

For those if you who haven't come across this product, it is an oil (PureCellin Oil) that helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone. It is hypo-allergenic so suitable for all skin types.

It is a bit on the pricey side, but a little goes a long way. I like to use this after a bath on an evening, and let it soak into my skin before getting ready for bed. It can also be a great addition to bath water - just make sure to wipe the bath out after as it can leave a bit of a grease round the tub!

By Carla Mum and Baby Support Pillow

I read so many great things about this pillow in other pregnancy blogs that I had to purchase one myself, and it has been attached to me ever since!

I have been getting really bad back ache recently, and can never get comfortable on the couch or in bed at night, but this has been a total god-send. It's great for lower back support, as well as cuddling into as a pillow and will be perfect for when baby J arrives so I can use for him/her either to lie on, or as a support when breast feeding. (On a separate note, I think I have decided to try both breast and bottle. I don't want to completely rely on breast feeding, in case I don't like it or baby J doesn't take to it, but I want to give it a good go before going to the bottle!)

If you are having a tough time sleeping, or just getting comfy then I totally recommend this. It comes it lots of different colours which I love. I went for the raspberry polkadot one.

There are tons more products I have been using during my pregnancy, but these are the ones that so far I have really loved, and thought I could 100% recommend to purchase. I will continue to update this post as I find more products, but hopefully this is some help to you other preggo ladies out there!

Week 20 Pregnancy Update

How far along?
21 weeks today (so this is my 20 week update).

Total weight gain?
10lbs.

Maternity clothes?
Yes! I can get away with some of my normal clothes, but I've been and got some maternity trousers for work, and a couple of dresses.

Stretch marks?
Non yet! *fingers crossed* this continues. I've been loving the Sanctuary Mum to Be body butter - I've literally been bathing in it I love it that much! :)

Sleep?
The last few nights I've been getting really restless legs, so started to put a pillow in between them. I've also just ordered a By Carla Mum and Baby Support Pillow, so I will let you know what I think of that when it arrives.

Best moment this week?
Having our 20 week scan :) it was amazing to see Baby J again, and to know he/she is doing OK in there! We didn't find out the sex, we want to keep it a surprise :)

Also, having a couple of days off for some 'me time' has been lovely. I've had a bit of a tough time recently, which I will put below...

Worst moment this week?
As I said, I've been having a bit of a tough time the past few weeks with my emotions. No one ever mentions the emotional side of pregnancy (one if the main reasons I started this blog!) although I am so thrilled to be pregnant, and am really happy with my life, but I can't help but feel very down recently. I've been a lot more stressed and emotional, so I've taken a few days off work as instructed by my midwife, just to get myself sorted out and to feel a little more normal...

Miss anything?
I've missed feeling less stressed! But other than that, I've not been missing anything else.

Movement?
Loads! This one is a little wriggler! He/she doesn't seem to have a pattern, it's just a constant feeling of being poked and kicked, which I have to say I absolutely love! It's always on my left, which is where I guess it's most comfy.

Food cravings?
I've really been craving Nando's recently! I went for tea with a friend a few weeks ago, and since then it's all I've wanted.

Anything making you feel sick or queezy?
The thought of homemade soup makes me want to throw up (I've felt this since the start of my pregnancy). I'm also still not keen on the smell of coffee, although I don't mind having the odd latte.

Gender?
Don't know! We chose not to find out. But at the moment I have a feeling it's a boy...

Symptoms?
Feeling very stressed/emotional as I said before. But other than that, physically I've been feeling good this week.

Belly button in or out?
In, but it's definitely changed shape recently!

Happy or moody?
Mostly quite moody, but I'm taking a lot of time out for myself, to try and stop feeling as down. It seems to be working, so here's hoping next weeks update is a lot different.

Looking forward to?
Purchasing the nursery furniture and pram! We have decided what we like, just need to save a few more pennies so we can go get it :)

And here is the bump for 20 weeks! If you want to see my bump shots from previous weeks (I've been taking pics since I found out I was pregnant) let me know and I will do a separate post!

First Trimester Pregnancy Update

<a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/11734759/?claim=etyfvz4u6hn">Follow my blog with Bloglovin</a>

Hello everyone!

As I am new to blogging, I thought I best get you up to speed on my pregnancy, and how I found the first trimester.

We found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks, having just got back from a week holiday in Portugal. To be honest, we hadn't been trying for very long, so we were very lucky to fall pregnant so quickly! I had been on the pill for about 6/7 years, and decided to come off the pill in August so we could start trying for a family... 4 weeks later we were pregnant! Now I know this isn't the case for everyone, and for some couples it does take a long time to conceive, so we felt extremely lucky to have had this wonderful news so early.

At 7 weeks we did have a bit of a scare, as I had some bleeding. This is very normal in pregnancy, but as this is my first pregnancy I was a complete wreck with worry. We went for a scan and thankfully Baby J was just fine. Phew!

Up until week 8 I hadn't had many symptoms of pregnancy, apart rom feeling very tired and hormonal. But at week 8, the morning sickness came! Well for me, it was evening sickness, and having dinner just wasn't an option, as I couldn't keep anything down. Thankfully, I could get through the day at work fine without anyone noticing, but when I came home I spent most nights hugging the toilet!

This only lasted for a week or two, so again, very lucky with symptoms! I didn't really experience sore boobs either, just a little uncomfortable..

We had our scan at 13 weeks, and Baby J was doing just great! We were both so excited to share the news with our family, and Tom's daughter, who is 10. She was so excited to be a big sister, so this made it even more special for us!

Here is a picture of Baby J at 13 weeks...

My emotions in the first trimester were pretty happy. As most pregnant women, I was constantly worrying that the baby was OK, and that Everything I was felling/doing was normal. But other than that, I was very happy and enjoyed having this new life to look forward to!

I think that's everything covered from my first trimester! If there is anything you would like to know, please leave a comment below! Also, let me know whether you think the scan looks like a boy or girl - I love hearing people's opinion on what it might be!

A little about me...

Hello everyone!

I have been wanting to start a blog for some time now, but never really known where I would fit into this big world that is the internet! But as a mum-to-be, I have spent many hours searching the internet for advice and to read about other peoples experiences, and thought as an expectant mum, this would be a great place to start.

These pregnancy blogs have literally been a godsend, and I have found reading about 'real' pregnancies so helpful, as it is a pretty daunting thing to be a first time mum! So I hope that I can help at least one person from telling my story.

So a little about me... My name is Nicola, I am 24 and at the time of writing this I am 21 weeks pregnant! I married my wonderful husband Tom in May 2013, and this is our first child together.

At 21 weeks, I know this is a little late to be starting my blog, as I am just past the halfway mark in my pregnancy, but better late than never!

Anyway, enough rambling.. I hope that you enjoy my blog, and as I am new to this I would appreciate any comments or suggestions on how I can improve things!
