Second Trimester Summary

There is some consternation as to when the final trimester officially begins. I’ve got several different apps/books/websites telling me it is somewhere around the 26th to 28thweek, but thought as I now have 12 weeks left, it seemed the right time to write all about my second trimester.

Everyone says the second trimester is the best. You’re over the sickness stage and have gotten used to the idea of your body changing, but you aren’t at the point where you are too tired and exhausted to do anything. For the most part, I’ve found this all to be true. I’m not saying it has been an easy ride, but I think overall I have enjoyed this trimester a lot, and I am looking forward to edging even closer to our due date!

I thought I would list some of the main symptoms I have had through this trimester:

Emotional Changes
I wish someone had told me what an effect pregnancy would have on my emotional state. I knew my body was going to change, but I didn’t know what it would do to me emotionally.

Around 20 weeks, I had a bit of a breakdown and was off work for four days. I felt like I was completely losing myself, and although I was so thrilled to be having a baby, I couldn’t help but feel very down about everything. I used those days off to have a little pamper, have some time to myself, and just think about what it was that was really upsetting me. It turned out that it wasn’t anything in particular, but once I accepted that it was OK to be feeling all over the place, the quicker I was able to feel a bit more normal again.

I felt so bad for Tom at this point. Bless him, he really put up with a lot! But he was so supportive, and knew when to ask me if I was OK, and when just to leave me on my own. I’ll always be so grateful for how well he handled me at that point!

Physical Changes
Bigger boobs. About time! I’ve never been overly lucky in the boob department, so this was a total welcome (TMI?)

Stronger hair. Again, another symptom I was excited to have!

Weaker nails. I didn’t have the best nails pre-pregnancy, so was looking forward to having really strong, healthy nails (like my hair) but unfortunately, they just break all the time.

Decrease in body hair. I love this symptom! For anyone who is pregnant, you will be able to sympathise with how hard it is to shave your legs after a certain point! So for the hair on my legs to stop growing as much, was a wonderful thing.

Dry and itchy skin. I have eczema anyway, but this trimester has been my skin become very sensitive, and i have been a lot more prone to eczema flare-ups.

Backache. I knew this would come at some point, but I really hoped it wouldn’t come so soon.

Bleeding gums. I’ve been very lucky with my teeth, and have *touch wood* never had any problems at all. So to have bleeding gums was a bit of a scary one for me.

Spots. I thought once my hormones settled down from the first trimester my spots would clear up too. Oh how I was wrong!

Nosebleeds. I’ve had a few of these throughout the second trimester. Although they are perfectly normal, they are really unpleasant, and freak Tom out every time! Poor thing.

Sleep. Getting comfortable is just a nightmare, and I am so conscious that I might be squishing my bump.

Indigestion. This has only just started recently, but I get such a sick feeling after I have eaten.

While there have been some unpleasant sides to the second trimester, there have been some wonderful bits too!

20 week scan. Getting to see that Baby J was growing perfectly healthy was just wonderful. We didn’t find out the sex, which just makes it even more exciting trying to guess who is in there!

Movement. When the flutters turned into full on kicks it was the most amazing feeling! I love when Tom feels it kick, his face completely lights up. Maya absolutely loves feeling it kick too, and she is so excited to be a big sister! It makes us both even more excited.

The Bump. Now that I actually look pregnant and not just like I am carrying extra Christmas weight, I love how even strangers stop and ask when I am due!

Purchases. We’ve been and got quite a few things for Baby J like the pram and travel seat, the cotbed and nursery furniture. It makes it all feel so real. I can’t wait to start buying clothes J

I could honestly go on and on about all the wonderful things, but this post is getting pretty long already! All these happy moments make the bad ones seem insignificant, and are a constant reminder of what a wonderful time this is in our lives.

The third trimester promises to be the most exhausting and uncomfortable of the three, so I'm gearing up for that. However, my excitement levels are going through the roof and I've still got 12 weeks to go - so they will help me pull through.

I just can't wait to meet him/her!

Week 27 Pregnancy Update

How far along?
28 weeks today.

Total weight gain?
I very reluctantly got on the scales this week, and in three weeks have gained another 4lbs! I thought I had put on a bit, as people keep commenting on how big my bump has got recently, and it certainly feels huge!

Maternity clothes?
Nothing new, but I may invest in some more maternity tights and underwear.

Stretch marks?
Still none.

Sleep?
Still getting woken in the night by Baby J’s kicks, but other than that I’ve been sleeping really well.

Best moment this week?
I haven’t had any best moments, but overall have had a good week!

Worst moment this week?
No bad moments either! Have been feeling really good recently.

Miss anything?
I was at a 50th party on Saturday night and I did miss not being pregnant a little, just because I couldn’t really relax and get in the party spirit and was very conscious of people stumbling into my bump!

Movement?
Again – lots! The kicks are getting really strong and my tummy is going in all kinds of funny shapes. Last night I’m sure I could make out it’s little bum sticking up! :)

Food cravings?
I am constantly hungry, so I’m trying to make sure any snacks I have are healthy ones, and get plenty of fruit and veg in my diet. Not as easy as I'd like, but I am determined to keep away from the biscuit drawer.

Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
No.

Gender?
Surprise!

Symptoms?
I’m still getting a lot of pain in my ribs, and my hips are getting really sore now.

Belly button in or out?
In.

Happy or moody?
Happy mostly! I've been getting very over-emotional about things that don't actually matter, but other than that I've been happy :)

Looking forward to?
We’ve finally picked the paint for the nursery, so really looking forward to getting that decorated in a few weeks’ time. it’s also pay day tomorrow (woohoo!) so I plan to get a lot of bits for baby J, as well as my changing bag!

And here is the bump for 27 weeks!

Review | FOREO LUNA mini

Sonic cleansers are one of the biggest beauty must-haves, and the FOREO LUNA mini is an absolute staple to have in your beauty regime.

In case you haven’t come across this little gem, the FOREO LUNA mini is a cleanser that uses sonic pulsations to cleanse both deeper into the skin and gentler at the same time. It has rounded silicone touch-points to channel the sonic pulsations to the skin, making it much gentler and non-abrasive on the skin. The silicone is nonporous, waterproof and antibacterial, therefore really hygienic and doesn't require changing.

After only three days of using the FOREO LUNA mini, I could see a dramatic difference in my skin.  It felt a lot smoother, and any breakouts I had were almost gone. A month on and my skin was flawless! I do still get breakouts, especially now I am pregnant, but using this definitely helps clear them before they really break out into something monstrous!

I use it twice daily, and make sure I have removed my makeup beforehand. I use it with my Clinique Liquid Facial Cleanser, but can be used with whatever product you like.

It has a USB charger that keeps it charged for 300 uses on a single charge. That’s almost a whole year! Which makes it perfect for traveling. No having to worry about charging it mid-week or mid-travel, which is ideal. It also comes in five different colours, which I believe relate to different skin types, so there is one out there to suit everyone. I have sensitive skin, so went for the Petal Pink one. There's is even a men's one, which would be a great gift for the modern groomed man!

I was lucky enough to win this product in one of the lovely Tanya Burr’s monthly favourite giveaways. I’ve never won anything before in my life, so to win such a great product was incredible. After watching her review and doing a bit of research online I was desperate to get my hands on one even if I didn’t win, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new cleansing product that really does make a difference.

If you would like to know more about the FOREO LUNA mini and the FOREO range, I have put a link to their website here.

Are there any cleansing products you use that you can’t live without?

Week 26 Pregnancy Update

How far along?
27 weeks today (officially in my third trimester, woohoo!)

Total weight gain?
I haven’t weighed myself for a couple of weeks, so I’m not sure.

Maternity clothes?
I’ve not bought anything new, I think that I got all the essentials a few weeks ago so everything is fitting nicely!

Stretch marks?
Still none.
Sleep?
I’ve been really tired again this week, and I’ve found that Baby J’s kicks are waking me up through the night more than they used to.

Best moment this week?
Going away for Tom’s birthday and our babymoon! So strange to think that’s the last time we will get away before he/she arrives. I did a blog post about our weekend away, which you can look at here.

Worst moment this week?
I’ve not had any bad moments this week!

Miss anything?
I’ve not missed anything this week, I’ve been really enjoying being pregnant!

Movement?
Lots! The kicks are definitely getting stronger each week, and he/she seems to be active a lot more active throughout the day too. I’ve heard you can feel hiccups at this point, so I’m trying to figure out if it’s that, or if it is just a wriggly baby!

Food cravings?
I’ve not had any more cravings, but I am consciously trying to eat a lot better (minus the Dominos last night!)

Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
No.

Gender?
Don't know!

Symptoms?
I’ve started to get a lot of pain under my ribs, and my boobs seem to have got a lot bigger this week (I’m not complaining yet, he)

Belly button in or out?
In, but looks like it is moving outward a little!
Happy or moody?
Happy! We had a lovely weekend away and picked up some bits for Baby J’s room, so have had a lot to smile about :)

Looking forward to?
Decorating the nursery in a few weeks and purchasing my changing bag! I’ve seen one that I love, I just need to wait until payday.

And here is the bump for 26 weeks!

How have you all found pregnancy so far? For those of you further on than me/already mummy's, I'd love to know what to expect in the third trimester!

Review | Bounty Mum-to-be Pack

I’m sure most of you received a Bounty pack from your midwife/healthcare professional around the 12 week point, but in case you haven’t heard of them before, Bounty are the UK’s largest parenting club, and offer advice and support through pregnancy and beyond.

They offer expectant and new mums free sample packs, which come at four different stages of pregnancy and motherhood: the Information Folder, the Mum-to-be Pack, the Newborn Pack and the Family Pack.

As I said, these packs are completely free, and include items such as the Bounty ‘Baby Product Guide’, product samples, money off coupons and lots of helpful advice and information.

I have just picked up my Mum-to-be Pack, and there are so many wonderful goodies inside, that I thought I would do a little post in case you are looking to pick up one!

What's Inside?

  • Bounty Baby Product Guide. This is like an essential buying guide, and goes through everything you will need for your little one, with product reviews and expert guides. I can easily see this becoming my shopping Bible!
  • George by Asda Scratch Mitts. These are a lovely addition to the pack, they are really lovely quality and know they will be of great use.
  • Dettol Anti-Bacterial Wipes. I use these at home already, so was thrilled these were included as they are the best wipes!
  • Sudocrem. This is a lovely sample size, which will be great as a little extra in my handbag.
  • Samples of Cussions Mum & Me Stretchmark Cream, Hand Gel and Baby Bath Cream. I haven't used these yet, but they smell amazing.
  • Persil Non Bio & Comfort Pure hooded bath towel. Another great item in the pack! It's lovely and soft and know it will have plenty of use.
  • Sample of Fairy Non Bio
  • Sample of Ovaltine drink.
  • Vouchers and discounts on the above brands, as well as a few others.

I believe each pack can vary slightly in contents, but it is a great way to try out new products for both mum and baby, as well as getting some great advice and information.

If you are interested in picking up a pack, head over to the Bounty website and print off your voucher. You can then take this into stores such as Asda, Boots, Kiddicare and Superdrug.

Have any of you picked up your Bounty pack yet? If so, what did you think of it?

Our Babymoon! Weekend Away in Manchester

Hello Everyone!

Just thought I would do a little post on our weekend away in Manchester for Tom’s birthday/our babymoon!

It’s so scary to think that’s the last time we will be away before Baby J arrives. Very exciting, but scary!

We travelled down Sunday morning (we live in Carlisle, so was about a 2 hour drive, which isn’t bad) and got checked into the hotel just after lunch. We stayed at The Lowry Hotel, which is absolutely gorgeous. We’ve stayed there before, so knew we would enjoy it.

Once we checked in we freshened up and went for a drink in the bar (fresh orange and lemonade for me!) before heading into town for a wander.
We did a spot of shopping and Tom picked up a lovely blazer and shirt for that night, and some new shoes as a birthday treat, and just had a general browse before heading back to the hotel to get ready.

Once we were all dressed and ready to go, we headed back to the hotel bar for a drink before we went for dinner. Tom had a beer while I treated myself to a Bora Bora Mocktail – it was lovely!

We ate at Wings, which is an incredible Chinese restaurant. That’s the first time we’ve been there, but will be sure to go back! the food was absolutely incredible, hands down the best Chinese I’ve ever had! And even better, we did a bit of celeb spotting while we were in there as Coleen and Wayne Rooney were eating there too!

After dinner we just went back to the hotel and had a drink in the room while all cosy in our PJ’s.

Monday morning we checked out early and went for another wander around the shops before heading back. As we were checking out, I had a total ‘fan girl’ moment as The Wanted were checking in!! I didn’t get a pic, but did say hello to Nathan, which I thought was pretty cool :) (sad, I know!)

We had a wonderful time away and we are now so excited to get the nursery ready for Baby J! We got the bedding this weekend and some paint samples, so it’s all starting to feel a lot more real!

Week 25 Pregnancy Update

How far along?
26 weeks today.

Total weight gain?
I haven’t actually weighed myself since last week, so I’m not sure!

Maternity clothes?
Nothing new. I did a haul post earlier this week on a few bits I picked up on a recent shopping trip. If you would like to take a look, click here.

Stretch marks?
Still none.

Sleep?
I’ve been really tired this week, but can’t seem to get into a deep sleep. I have been tossing and turning a lot through the night, well, as much as I can with a big bump weighing me down!

Best moment this week?
I had a midwife appointment yesterday and still get all choked up when I hear baby J’s heartbeat on the Doppler.

Worst moment this week?
I had a couple of days last week where I was feeling really ill, not sure what from, but I didn’t feel right at all.

Miss anything?
I’m back to missing wine again! And seafood. There was a very teary moment over a prawn earlier this week…. daft I know! But I have no control over my emotions at the moment.

Movement?
Lots!

Food cravings?
No cravings, but there are definitely foods that I’ve really fancied – like my chicken, mozzarella and pesto toasties from last week!

Anything making you feel sick or queasy?
As I said before, Friday night and Saturday I felt really sick. Not sure what brought it on, but I couldn’t get myself out of bed I felt so awful.

Gender?
Don't know!

Symptoms?
Indigestion and back ache have been my main symptoms this week… the joys!

Belly button in or out?
In.

Happy or moody?
Happy! It’s helped that we have had such lovely weather recently.

Looking forward to?
Tom’s birthday tomorrow! And going to Manchester for his birthday/our babymoon.

And here is the bump for 25 weeks!

Maternity Clothes Haul!

For those of you that follow me on Twitter, you will know that I recently went on a little shopping trip!

I was in desperate need of some new clothes, as a lot of my non-maternity clothes no longer fit me. So my mum, my stepdaughter Maya and I took a trip to the Metro Centre in Newcastle.

I had a few people asking me what I got and to do a haul, so here are the items I picked up…

I posted a picture of this dress on my Twitter and Instagram on Sunday as I wore it out to lunch with Tom and his parents, and I absolutely love it! It’s really lightweight, and can be worn with or without tights, depending on the weather. I love the daisy pattern and the little zip at the neckline.

This dress is the same style as above, but I really liked the pattern so thought I’d get this one too. I think they are both really flattering, as they pull in just under the bust and drape nicely over my growing bump! At only £16.99, they’re great value for money.

I also picked up a pair of black skinny jeans, as I’m getting a bit tired of wearing leggings all the time. These are a really soft material, and I really like the under bump band on them. These were a bargain at £19.99

I obviously don’t wear them with my top tucked in, this was just to show you the band! :)

I live in sweat pants at home, so I couldn’t resist these! I love how the band goes right over the bump, so they are nice and snug.

We took a trip into Primark and I picked up these lovely shoes, which were a bargain at £6. I liked them so much, I got them in both black and nude!

I couldn’t not mention this dress, even though I got it just after Christmas in the sale. Shock horror, another New Look item! it’s got a detachable necklace, which I think really adds to the dress. I’ve worn this so much already. It’s a great work dress, but also great if you are going out. I’m not sure if this exact dress is still available as I got it in the sale, but an LBD is an essential in your maternity wardrobe!

For tops, I have just picked up a couple of cheap H&M basic tops (non-maternity) but in a larger size.

I’d love to know what maternity clothes you have bought, and what stores you think have the best range.

I really hope you like this post! It felt very strange standing taking these pics (sorry they aren't as fancy as some other bloggers, i haven't got a decent camera yet and felt weird asking someone to take the pics for me!) so I'd really love to know what you thought.
